Do You Want to Be Happier?

I am guessing you said “Yes.”. I did too!

Recent studies says that by writing down what you are grateful for at the end of your day can increase your happiness by 25%. That sounds achievable. We can all spend 2 minutes a day and make life more fulfilling and pleasant.

Studies show that by thinking positively you rewire your brain to see the bright side and to be content with what you have (while still taking steps towards a better life). When you think negatively you are doing the opposite. You see more of the bad in life because you have strengthened that connection in your brain. Then your brain jumps to things being bad on autopilot (never giving you the chance to even look at the situation). This is called your samskara-s which is when your past karma-s take the lead. The physical act of yoga (asana) is supposed to “burn” away these past judgments. Which allows you to live in the present moment.

It’s just as easy to set your path towards happy. Simply write 3 things you are grateful for every night. Use the format; “I am grateful for __________ because _________.”

It can include things your are currently grateful for, past things you are grateful for, and things still to come.

And don’t just pick objects. Be grateful for interactions and moments. Be thankful for sunsets, ice cream, the love of a partner, and catching all of the green lights.

Don’t go overboard! Keep it to just 3. The same research showed that if you list too many it starts to lose its effect. You have to really mean it, not just rattle it off.
